Posts: 1 (04/30/08 08:09:16) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None but first ill introduce myself i,m gerry 20 years old and i live in the netherlands im keeping snakes for 3 years now and have a collection of 30 snakes now i have 2 burmese pythons 3 morelia spilota variegata\irian jaya 2 morelia bredli 2 ball pythons a russian rat snake a boa ci and the rest are corn snakes in all sort of colors and patterns and since last sunday i finally bought myself a chondro it was sold to me as a captive bred 2008 sorong but ive heard from some other people its too big to be born in 2008 but should be born in 2007 it,s about to go through the color change he has some greenish dots on the head the rest is still yellow they also told me it is probably not a sorong because they have a sort of striped back pattern mine doesnt have that also it turned out the man i bought it from lied to me about the captive bred thing and sold me farmbred good start ey NOT monday i tried feeding him and he ate and yesterday i saw him drinking hes in good overall condition so that hes a farmbred animal isnt really that bad that hes fron 2007 is only a positive thing i think because he will be stronger than an 208 animal but when i was lokking for a chondro i always wanted a aru or a sorong type so now people have told me this i probably not a sorong i want to find out what it is and i hope someone here could give me some info here some pics also i made him a bamboo hang spot with 2 horizontal pershes but he still hasnt been on it he only hangs on a plastic plant wich is stuck in the corkplate back in his enclosure any tips that will get him on the persh i have already tried to remove the plant but then he hangs in the cork against his background

It definitely looks to be an '07 or possibly older hatchling to me too. My guess is that the seller was just a broker/jobber and may not have truly known himself about the locality. I would guess that it is definitely not sorong/jayapura (mainland type) and from your description of a few random bits of green on the head I would lean more towards a biak type locale. Aru babies look very similar to that also but when they go through color change they usually change fairly quickly starting with a muddy wash of green color to the majority of the snake. And.... the bamboo, it looks like it may be treated/coated with shellac or some other product? Is that bamboo in it's natural state? That would be very important to make sure. The size looks slightly large for the size of your snake, but I don't think it's so oversized that the snake wouldn't use it. Hmmmm, no other guesses on the lack of perching from me.

I've got some pics of Sorong adult and young in the classifieds. Besides the dorsal striping, another trait of the Sorong is the black tail tip, young or old.

Posts: 2 (05/10/08 06:05:54) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	hello the bamboo thing is varnished i think he still doesnt use it but i gave him a similar thing as the bamboo thing but thinner and made from a different material and he is using it so that problem is already solved he has the black tailtip that you describe and the spots on the head i dont know what that is on some pics it looks green-ish and on some just white when i look at him myself it looks just white and its still the same as when i posted my first message ahh well its just gonna be a surprise what hes gonna look like im already happy that he eats and drinks well tonight il give him his 3rd meal here

Posts: 47 (05/11/08 17:35:48) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	my limit knowledge i would say a hybrid of some sort, biak type have big nostrils and she/he doesn't have that, and the pattern looks very aru like to me, but she/he has a longer tail, were arus types have a stubby tail... so your guess is better than mine. in the end locality's don't matter, the animal has a very nice baby pattern, sounds like its healthy, who cares about putting a local name on it. you liked what u saw and bought it. nuff said.
