As I was soaking up all the information I could as I usually do I became a firm believer in locality GTPs and have a big interest and will base my collection in the future on the localities. My question is is there a must see or essential website, discussion board or even a book that people with a locality interest must see that I may have missed?

Localities are a hot topic and you may find a lot of people question their validity. Regardless, have you checked out Greg Maxwell's site and the information he has there? Here are a couple: The Value of Locality Specimens The Locality Debate I know that Freek Nuyt is very knowledgeable in localities and may be a good resource. You can get an autographed copy from him, visit his website: finegtps.com. (Sorry, computer stupid) But once you see all the possibilities of "designer" Chondros, you'll change your mind about sticking with localities! Good luck and welcome.

I am the type of person that wants a snapshot of an animal as it would/might appear in nature. While I do find them very beautiful, I find it hard to get excited for morphs or designer types of many snakes. I actually am more interested in locality Corn snakes, think about that, and my favorite type of Corn snake is actually a classic example of a Dade County Florida Corn snake. Being completely new to Chondros I thouroughly visited Fine GTP, Mr. Maxwell is an authority and I know I will use the info he provides allot in the future. I read the locality debate article and he is right actually; he is 110% right if you want to hold GTP locality standards to the pinpoint standard that many Rosy Boa or Kingsnake enthusiasts do; but unfortunetly we live a few thousand miles away from Irian Jaya. I personally have no issue with holding them to a standard that some BCC enthusiasts find acceptable which is basically large swaths of land. The fact that a GTP from this area usually looks and might even behave different from a GTP from that area is fine for me and I still find it quite interesting. Also I understand this is a hot button issue, there isn't a "to each his own" attitude in the community or is there? It's a German book and they believe in keeping the types pure and that it's a sin to cross breed the various types. Even has color plates and hints on how to ID hatchlings. Signal Herps carries it. Myself, I believe nothing compares to a nice Sorong. I have a pic of a pair with hatchlings in the ads. Check this site out for Boas. They don't even believe in albinos and other morphs but they have the most beautiful boas in the world. There will always be the "purists" and I admire and support their decision to work with locality types only. It would suck to wake up one day and not be able to point to a beautiful aru or jaya specimen and say "that's how they look in their native habitat". But, to look at some of the most incredible designer chondros and not be able to see them would be sad for me too. They are simply incredible, not better or worse, just different and unique. I am particularly fond of beautiful arus and the mainland locale types and hope to always have them in my collection and to work with them. But, the majority of mine are designer mutts and I'm not ever planning to give them up either!!
