I noticed when I took some pictures of my Chondro that the colours came out looking quite dull. They are much more vibrant in real life. Then I realized I had a red heat light on and I'm now wondering if this is the reason the colours looked so dull in the picture?

Probably. Good lightling is crucial to getting good color in your photographs. Most types of common indoor lighting, and the pop up flash on most consumer cameras, won't get the job done.
