Users of the free "Webshots" hosting service, as well as users of most other free hosting services, need to be aware that there are problems with using these services to post image links on the ChondroForum. These hosting services do not permit users to link to the stored images on sites such as the Chondroweb Forums. Others limit the amount of bandwidth to free users, causing the image links to appear broken after they have been opened a few times by Forum users.
Forum members using these free services may not be aware of the problem when posting image links, even when using the "Preview" feature. The images are showing up on your computer and you assume others can see them too. This is because your computer stores the image in your cache or cookies file, allowing you to see the images when you preview your post. In reality, you are just looking at the cached copy from your own machine. To avoid this problem, click the Refresh button while in the Preview window. If the image is still visible after the browser refreshes, your link will be good.
As explained in the Tech Tips posts related to hosting images, we wish to avoid posts with broken links. Users who wish to post images should consider using free services that do not have these problems, or even better, purchase some inexpensive space on a hosting site or your ISP server. In fact, many ISPs provide some free space along with your Internet account.
Users with posts containing broken links will be asked to repair them. Posts not promptly repaired will be edited or removed as the case may be.
Posting photos is a fun and important part of the Forums, and we encourage everybody to do so. However, things are usually free for a reason, and in many cases these free services won't working on the Chondroweb Forums. Please don't use the free space provided by webshots or other troublesome free services to attempt to post images here. Thank you all for your understanding.
