So my breeding this year consisted of being incredibly late and lazy, I put them all together in February and separated in .. oh, maybe May. I didn't keep records, I didn't really cycle, I've honestly been so busy with my company that I didn't have time to do anything the right way, I just figured I'd throw the dice.
So about three weeks ago, my Timika chondro (sold to me as timika, looks like boko, don't really care what you call her, she's gorgeous) got out of the cage. I found her (in the ceiling on conduit, so cute and bad!) and I fixed the vent that caved in. She was incredibly restless after that, so I'm thinking... okay Aaron, this is a good sign. Day after day, cruising around the cage.
So I put the nest box in, JUST IN CASE. And she checks it out, spends time in it, out of it, half and half, cruising, cruising, cruising. I noticed her head was swollen, and even my daughter said, "That doesn't even look like mikka" due to the head swell. I mean, it was really noticable, but I figured this was just wishful thinking. A couple of days ago she was out to the point where I could feel her belly, and she wasn't large at all, I didn't feel anything (but I didn't really grab hard or anything, just like massaging her belly)... I honestly didn't know what I was feeling for, but it didn't seem like there was anything in there.
So I was about to take the nest box out.
This morning, I came down and didn't see her, figured she was in the hide box, and saw a little green and didn't think anything of it. My daughter comes down and says, Where's Mikka? I told her she was in the box and she asked why I had that in there. I told her I thought she might be gravid, but it was just wishful thinking.
And then the wishful thinking comes in. Do I look? Am I just getting my hopes up? I fiddle with my computer until I can't resist the urge to go in and check it out.
She was in a coil (which she had sat like this before) and I spray the cage down, and agitate her until she moves 1/4 inch and I see glorious pearly white underneath her! I just about had a heart attack, the hairs on my arms raised due to the sheer excitement!
I have a ton of questions which I'm putting in the next post as they'd get lost in this dialog. I am SO excited. Here's her before and now.
