I feed all of my critters live pinkies. They are all such pigs it has never been a problem switching to pre-killed later on.
Only one animal has ever been difficult, and that is because it is difficult in general.

All of the big critters eat pre-killed.
I have had a different animal (for 4 years) than the difficult one that until recently has always been a hogatha. She got food poisoning from my best guess, and regurgitated her mouse a few days later and had a big rrhea squirt. The combined smell was unbelievable. She is cbb and parasite free (I checked after this), so I watched her like a hawk. Everything normal. No need for the vet yet. But, she is a pain to get to eat now. She does not like the smell of mice anymore.

Nonetheless, she does eat and everything has been normal since.

So, there is the risk of passing things with unfrozen food, but then again there is the risk of passing things with thawed food too.

O.K. long story getting longer.

They also like paper towels if I am trying to block when they are in feeding mode. They never swallow these though. Just bite and squeeze, and squeeze and bite, and squeeze. Yup, bunch of green pigs on sticks at my house.
They just sit there and wave their tails at me day or night.
They watch the cat too. Well, only one does.
