My adult female has gone off of feeding for around a month. Looks as if she is in shed and has looked this way the whole time. Pretty inactive although I have caught her drinking so I am not terribly concerned as of yet. I guess I am concerned because she has never went off feed before in the past. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Are her signs of shed typical, other than the fact that this has been going on for a month? I've heard people mention parasite infestations can cause prolonged or multiple sheds. Mine usually go 2.5 weeks off food before and during a shed cycle.

I don't believe she has any parasites, had her checked out when I first got her and everything was clean...mid-summer. No visible signs of any parasites, ie. no mites, clear clean mouth, last defication was at the very least normal looking. Been around reptiles all my life but new to chondros.
Could temps slow down a shed cycle. Her enclosure is about the same as always....however the room temp. in which her enclosure is in are lower than normal due to time of year, but compensated with the enclosure temps. This is the first winter I have had with them. I was planning on attempting to cycle her and introduce the male after this shed but she is on her own apparent schedule. Thanks for the reply. Josh |

Can you post a picture of what she looks like right now? Are you also 100% sure she is a she?
Lower temps will slow down a snake but if your cage temps have remained the same (low to mid-80's on the basking side) with the proper heat gradient, I don't see why that should be affecting her. Chondros are sensitive to even small changes, however. I haven't had an adult in a prolonged shed, however, I had a good feeding female immediately go off food when I started cycling her to breed. Anyone else had an adult not want to shed or slow to shed that appeared healthy?? |

Kim, I want to thank you for your thoughts....She shed last night...full clean shed....hopefully she will eat tonight...positive she will....Not sure why she took so long but what ever it was, it looks like the result is the same...
