Im about to set up some new fibre glass vivs with 2% uv. Id be interested to know how you guys feel about planted "natural" set ups. Any one got pics of natural vivs? Any one got horror stories to share? Id love some advice before I start working on my new set ups for the ATBs and my lovely Sarong girl.

The only thing i can say and this is only my opinion and experience was when i had planted vivs for my gtp's and etb's i was for ever replacing the plants due to them being destroyed or just dying......BUT they do look bloody good when the right plants are used and the viv is big enough to accomaodate the palnting.At the end of the day its really what you want and will enjoy,go for it you can always revert back to silk if it dont work out.

I love plants in my chondro cages and I believe that the snakes like them too...it gives them something natural and organic to tongue flick rather than all plastic, as well as a bit more oxygen and humidity. I also use a bark/moss mix for substrate. I keep the plants in the pots (sometimes cutting the pots down a bit) and then pile the substrate over the pots to cover them. That way I can just pull the plants up, pots and all, when changing substrate. The idea is to have the chondro-benefits of a more natural viv with low-maintainance benefits for me!
It doesn't look as cool as a true planted viv but it isn't much more work than newspaper and silk plants. I use baby palms and snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata) in juvie cages and pothos and bigger palms in adult cages. The whole thing is a work in progress and I'd like to try more and different plants to see what works best. The plants seems to live OK with 7% UVB bulbs (9 watts in juvie cages and 18 in adult cages). I just water them and trim them back as they grow. Lousy photo but you get the idea.
