does anyone use heated perches. i was thinking of trying them out by placing a heat cable through a pvc perch and using a thermostat. are they worth a look.

That's a cool idea but I'm wondering if that would make the thermal gradient difficult to achieve. The snakes wouldn't be able to thermoregulate without grounding themselves (i.e. if perched, they'd always be at whatever temp you set the perch at).
I suppose you could try running it through only half of the perch...not sure. |

I looked into them when I first got into chondros and ended up deciding against them. Thermoregulation was my concern as well. A heat panel or heat source at one end of the cage on a thermostat works just fine. Most of my snakes prefer the cooler end of the cage unless they are digesting or shedding. I'd hate to force them off the perches to find that cooler spot.

I know Greg doesn't like them because of the lack of a cool spot. Mine also prefer the cool spots over the warm. Tempest tends to use the warm spots only after eating, before shed, and in the evenings when preparing for possible food.
