Ive got the chance of getting hold of a neonate Nabire type chondro. Being honest i have no idea what visual traits would set these apart from other chondros, and as the sellers dont have pics of the dam and sire i also dont know what sort of adults they turn into. I always believed that the nabire locale was very rare in the hobby so am quite excited about the chance of maybe owning one of these. Do any of you guys currently keep Nabires? I would love to see some pics of adults in particular. Thanks for any help.

Now they seem to be common and the price has dropped to about 300.00 for a farmed baby-which all that are available are. Be prepared to have your Nabire checked for parasites at least two consecutive times initially-as despite any claims that they were de-wormed-you will still have to go to the vet. Persons claiming to have treated animals leave something to be desired. Bushmaster animals can be nematode free-but can also not be. This is the farm of my choice when dealing with farmed chondros. Any farmed animals can be risky if you are not used to dealing with parasites and vets-of course you can always learn. If this is your first chondro-I might consider a cbb animal from a breeder in the U.S. If you really like Nabire animals then go for it. Just be prepared to de-worm your critter if need be-and not all exotic vets were created equal-find a good one.

I already have a sub adult sarong. Interesting you say that it will be a farmed animal as its advertised as captive bred (im in the uk. dont know if it makes any difference). Just the thought that it might be farmed is probably enough to put me off to be honest. Not worth taking the risk and i have no experience of de-parasiting. I had the choice of Manokwari, Jayapura and Nabire neonates. I would of loved something a bit special.

Posts: 48 (02/19/07 17:00:16) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	It seems that most of the available animals in the UK are farmed right now-but I don't know for certain what you guys have for breeders, etc. as I live in California. Everyone says cb-which is an abuse of the term that formerly meant what it stands for. As Scott mentioned-cbb usually means cb in its original intent. However, not everyone selling animals will distinguish between cbb, cb, etc. To trick the dealers just ask if it was cbb in Indo and usually the answer will be yes. Unfortunately at this time most locality phenotypes are bred and hatched or collected in Indonesia. Even in the U.S. the trend is to breed "designer" animals that are of mixed locality-some dating back to the 1970's. Knowing what is mixed in these animals is impossible as animals from all over have been crossed for 10-30 years. Blue lines have risen and high yellows etc. Then there are "locality" animals. Some probably are locality animals-just depends on how reputable the farm is and how precise their collection information is. It is probably difficult for most breeders to remain with locality animals given the fierce competition from the importers and their permanent prostitution of the term "captive bred". Plus the focus is on designer animals in the U.S. Irrespective of what we have-it probably is not worth it to import just one. Try the Germans for locality animals-or a captive breeder in your country might have some babies.

Yes a good exotic vet is a must when dealing with farmed and wildcaughts... fortunately some one else did most of the work with this little one and i got to reap the rewards...lol Good luck with your pick..
