Yeah the bloody things cost an arm and a leg over here 'cause they about as common as rocking horse sh!t. They have all shed twice and the majority have fed 7 times. It'll still be a few weeks at least if I end up buying them, so they'll feed more and more. Have heard Greg is going to be in Melbourne, but the expo has been cancelled and I can't justify paying to go down there just for a talk. (I live up North) PS: any reason I couldn't space properly in my original post? I was hitting 'Enter' between the photos and the groups of photo (i.e. mum, dad, hatchies) and they all got posted in a big clump..

I hadn't heard that the VHS event had been cancelled but there seem to be a lot of irritated people. I didn't realize expos were new in Australia and if people from around the country had booked tickets to attend I can imagine VHS is drawing a lot of criticism.

Are you buying siblings and some unrelated neonates? How difficult is it to get in on a clutch? It's good that they aren't selling them to you yet with only 7 meals in them. Even at 10 meals most still aren't reliable. Are the breeders there good about follow up help if you need it? If not, that's what we're here for.

I think the neonates are siblings, but haven't actually asked the seller. Will do that now!

Getting in on a clutch is bloody difficult but I was very lucky in emailing this bloke and asking him if he knew of anyone breeding. He said to me "good timing mate, my clutch is hatched out and feeding but I haven't told anyone" so I got in before he advertised.

This guy is a pretty well known bloke on a few reptile sites and is very knowledgeable. So far he has been very, very helpful and I can imagine he would follow through with that if need be. As they are too young to be sexed, he says if I end up with 2 males or 2 females he s usually able to organise a swap with another buyer with the opposite problem. I also have Greg Maxwell's book and joined up to his forum as you can never get enough help.

Breeding siblings isn't detrimental. The gene pool has to be severely restricted before any inbreeding depression is exhibited. Learnt it all at uni this semester and last year too (studying vet).. In order for inbreeding depression to show itself you'd have to breed within a small family group over and over and over, mating all the offspring back again and again.

Siblings can have 1 000 000 hatchies together and show no higher risk of deformation etc than normal (provided the original pair isn't already severely inbred of course) so I'm not too fussed. That being said if i CAN trade and end up with unrelated parents that'd be good too.
