Take a look here and see if you find any:
www.ARAV.org www.herpvetconnection.com www.anapsid.org www.seavs.com: this is for Dr. Stahl. He often helps out over the phone for consult. I don't know if he charges for phone consultation or not, but he's supposed to be excellent for GT's Good luck!

Thanks Meg, I'll start looking it up.
Joe, I'm located in eastern Queens, but my animals are in NJ... (long story) but I will be bringing my sick girl home tomorrow. Any help is appreciated... SitRep: Female GTP (biak) approx 4 yr old, stopped eating about two months ago, tried mice, rats, quail, lizards, now skinny able to see ribs, droppings include brown unclear liquid and white goop, which indicates she is at least drinking but never seen drinking, slow reaction, easily agitated and carried out with weak bites that don't hold, not bunts with the head, scale color gone darker than usual, last shed over three months ago. Change in perch position indicates movement but unsure about total activity. Head tilts to the left, kind of... Temperature mean mid-eighties (maintained with heat lamp and room heater), humidity mean 50%, lighting natural sunlight from window.

Trying to figure out what parasites would look like in/on a sick animal. there isn't anything unusual in her droppings with the excetpion of color of
liquid, her skin don't have any indication of anything, don't look like she is about to shed either. She looks normal with the exception of being
really skinny, and when she moves, you know there is something wrong... I'm now afraid to touch or move her...

A few thoughts. A 4 year old female that is off of feed and has had a color change.....could be developing follicles. An gtp that has been off feed for 2 months shouldn't lose a significant amount of weight. You could have a very hard time seeing anything in the stool unless you do a float and examine the sample under a microscope. Can you elaborate about how you know something is wrong? Buddy B |

Developing follicles? don't you need a mate for that...? every animal on her shelf is female and only one male on the other end of the shelf. she can't
possibily get any hint that there is male near by...
I totally agree, two months shouldn't affect her weight, but she DID lose a significant amount of weight, i can see her ribs at every turn... I know... you can't see anything unless its under a microscope, but I was just thinking of worms, the ones humans get and I just thought I might be able to see it in her droppings too... (I'm buying a microscope, its on the top of my wish list now) you know that feeling you get as a parent (even tho I'm not a parent, just using it as a comparasion), or when something is about to go terribly wrong... its something like that... I see her movements and just have that feeling. Something is wrong... she is "slow", like if you wave mouse in front of her, normally they'd strike the moment they get a wif on the food, but she is like a second late, as if she was "retarded" or something... and her strikes are always a weak bite, but never clamps down hard, the food just gets caught in her teeth and she'd struggle to get it off. and for some reason, her strikes always end up with her upside down for some reason, bites twists, upside down, and struggles to get the food item out and kinda struggles to get back up again, never back to the branch, but kinda lays there where she ended up. And by the way... New Jersey is now the state I hate the most. I hate it with a passion! I tried to get to my cousin's house today with a different route. Jersey people: I got off the holland tunnel, went straight trying to get on the NJ Turnpyke, some how, WITHOUT turning!, I ended up at the holland tunnel again. I then tried to get to the lincoln tunnel because its a straight-a-way to her house from there, I couldn't find the damn thing... after 150 miles on my little meter, and many people's directions later, I found the Lincoln tunnel, but instead of heading into NJ, it sent me straight into the tunnel to Manhatten. I wanted to run my car into the wall! Jersey is the only place I know that is a town without a straight road with proper numbering, and has signs that tells you to go straigt on both oppsite sides of the road for a destination is straight ahead! arrrgggggg..... sorry, jut venting my frustration... so... I didn't get to bring my sick girl home today... I did find a vet close to me tho... thanks Meg for the sites. I'm gonna try again tomorrow to get her home, in a route I always take. Happy New Year eveyone

Danny females can grow follicles without a male present. Seasonal clues can stimulate their growth.
Of all the symptoms the sudden weight lose is the one of most concern. When you find a herp vet I would have them consult Scott Stahl http//www.seavs.com/ , he is great and has first hand experience keeping chondros. Good Luck and keep us posted!! Buddy B |
