Ever since Kimberly clued me in to the white balance feature of my camera, I've been itching for a good day to shoot pics. I finally got one this weekend,
but the snake whose color has been giving me the most trouble - Captain 20 - is in shed. So I went with my Manokwari this time, and my junior herpetologist
assisted me. Enjoy!

Your daughter is a beauty holding a beautiful snake! Really nice color in those pictures. Did you test out several different white balance setting to see the
difference it makes? It's pretty remarkable how different the colors turn out. Very nice pics!

Yes, I tried out several settings. I took about 30 pictures in this session in various modes, and several were disastrous just because of the color. The first two pics above were taken while the sun was shining, but I ducked around the side of the house and used the "cloudy" white balance setting. The other pics were taken out front with the same setting after the sun had disappeared behind a cloud. The one disappointment is that sports mode automatically overrides any manual white balance settings, so I have to shoot in normal mode and hope I catch the snake (and my daughter!) both holding perfectly still in the same shot. Sports mode gives me better focus no matter what the two subjects are busy doing, but the pictures look washed out. Fortunately macro mode also lets me keep the manual white balance settings. Thanks for continuing to help me on my chondro photography odyssey.

Try using your camera's RAW setting if it has one, then use Photoshop to control white balance, exposure etc
|
