Hi, my name is Danny, I live in Chicago IL, I just started getting into Chondro's over the past few weeks! I
have always seen there beauty and wished I would own one, but I was scared that they a very mean and not to hardy. So, I held one at a show, and I wanted to
buy it so bad! It had a great look and a price I didn't want to pass on. But I knew that I had to be responsible to the community and do my research 1ST if
I was to get into this world.
So to get me off on the right foot. Is there anything I should read or anyone I should talk to? What kinda animals tend to be the nicest green? I love
biak's (big fan of yellow) and the Canary's...
I am not scared of a challenge right off the bat. I do have about 16 years of keeping retics and other pythons. I do want to start at a realistic level tho.
Thank you so much for any info you can give/share.

Hi, biggest thing I can say is buy USA CB for the most trouble free animal. At a lot of shows and on the internet they may call a GTP captive bred and captive
born but they are actually farmed animals from Indonesia and imported. Stick to the ads here and at Morelia viidis who allow only USA CB ads. Second, buy Greg
Maxwells book "The More Complete Chrondo" or at least read everything on his web site, fine green tree pythons. Lastly have everything ready before
you bring one home. Before Chondros, I kept Brazilian Rainbow Boas, another high humidity loving snake, and I like to think they helped me. Who's show were
you at? Lee's? And where in Chicago are you from? I'm from the outer suburbs and I have some babies for sale. Check my ad and pics in the classifieds.

Awesome, I'm also fairly new to gtps, but not new to reptiles. I've had retics, burms, boas. My biggest retic was just over sixteen feet in length.
I've also had alot of monitors, water, nile, dumerils, black throats. I love the pics, keep them coming.

Really impressive pics everyone. I saw some of the most beautiful retics last weekend at our annual reptile & amphibian day. I might consider one of the
dwarf sizes but the normal ones are more that I think I could handle!

Retics (even at 260+ lbs) they move like you wont believe! This is my best advice! Pick out a morph you like, don't worry about size. Feeding them is everything. Keep there meals small and they stay small, increase there meal size they grow. My friend has a Jampea dwarf retic that is 16.9 feet (last time we broke out the tape) and she is about 156 lbs give or take a meal. Sound like a dwarf to you? There is videos of this snake on youtube if anyone wants to see me try and keep her off the walls. She is a freaking nut and moves like she is 6 months old! Dwarf is not the way to go all the time. Please ask me any questions that come to mind. If there is anything I can do for you in helping pick your 1st retic it would be my pleasure! |

Hi Danny! There seems to be a lot of "newbies" out there lately, including me! Nice pictures. I second the advice on get "the" book, you
can even get an autograghed copy from Greg. Check it out on his website. I only have 3 gtps right now, but I plan on many more. All of mine have no pedigree
and are still awsome snakes, but...save and buy from one of these guys(that's where I plan on purchasing next!). Bargain basement can be loads of trouble.
I have a Sorong male I felt like I had to "rescue" from a show in Birmingham and even though the snake itself was relatively cheap by Green Tree
standards, I have spent a small fortune seeing to his well being. After several vet trips and a long battle with mites, he's turning out to be a fine
animal, docile as a lamb. I have no regrets because I feel someone else might not have gone to the lengths I did for this guy, but CB would have been less of
a headache. Good luck with your final choice!
