Does any one know of any good breeders that have babies available at a reasonable price. I would like a pair, but I understand its not good to sex them at a young age.
Thanks,
Chris

Depends on your definition of reasonable price...
and yes you don't want to sex them young... ChondroHead

There are many breeders with available chondros (myself included). Try the Classifieds here or at MVF. That is where I'd begin my search.

Actually, DPHHChondro, you raise a good point. Since the definition of reasonable is definitely relative, the answer to the question may vary.
Maybe a better question is what prices would you (or any of the other experienced keepers/breeders on the board) expect to pay for a quality cbb neonate, yearling, and so on. I would think, though I could be wrong, that the majority of the first time chondro buyers (the type of person that would ask this type of question) are looking for a pet. Others with more experience understand that buying a chondro because it has a trait that is desired for breeding purposes is a totally different story. To better quantify the answer, what would make the price vary/increase (aside from cbb vs. farmed)? Locality, parent's traits, etc? |

As for price difference, there are many factors...
1. As mentioned before CBB/CB/WC 2. Locality specific (Canarys and Meaukes are typically more expensive than Biaks or Arus) 3. Designer (Blue line/HY) 4. Overall health of the animal (most responsible breeders will not sell an animal with feeding issues), but others will. 5. Age of animal (neo/yearling/adult/proven adult) 6. General appearance (less patterned/more patterned/'funky' looking neos) Many things to consider when pricing.... |
