I'm relativly new to chondros, had my first Aru for 3 months and he/she is 6 months old. This moring i noticed that it was perched in a funny way and when i investigated i noticed that it had prolapsed. I went straight for greg maxwells more complete chondro! I've moved it to a smaller tub lined with paper towel soaked with water and i have put sugar paste on the prolapsed tissue. The swollen tissus is larger than the diameter of the chondro at the vent. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated. I'll try and get some pictures up if that helps Thanks Alex

You can try rolling it in with a lubricated Qtip if you want to risk trying it yourself. It's not difficult once you've seen it done. Your best bet for the animal is to find a vet. Search the forum, there are a couple of threads about reinserting a prolapse. Jason

Took her to the vet immediately and we ended up stitching the cloaca on each side to help keep the prolapse in. It had reduced on it's own by the time I got to the vet, but when she perched on the edge of the tub I brought her in, it would come back out. Taping works too, but she had eaten only a few days before and there's enough opening to allow urates to pass and fecal matter if it's soaked well (which I've been doing every other day). Anyone ever tried this? Also i have heard of people reinserting and holding with tape also. What type of tape could be used so not to damage gtp when taking it off? thanks for any info. prolapse is not a fun thing to deal with.

As far as tape, I think most people use the fabric band aids and they come off on their own after a while. There's threads on here somewhere about it. Has it ever prolapsed again?
