Hello everyone new on this group and im new raising my GTP, even though she's a year old in May 15 2008. I bought her july 7,2007 she was about 6" to
8" inches long, Remind you I dont force feed her, but i do treat her as she was my child ... LOL. She is now 48" long and i haven't had her a
year yet . People say ' NO WAY ", but Yes way i have all documentations and photos. She is a WAMENA GTP her name is Pykey, and she is the sweetest
baby i know. Is it that she's just happy or do i have a great feeding schedule? Im not new at raising snakes just new at raising chondros. I would love to

I'd have to see the snake next to an object of known size for me to have proof. A photo of her next to a measuring tape or measuring stick where you can
see the entire body length. Then I can measure with my snake program. If she's that large then you probably are feeding too much. Once a week, one item,
the size of the largest diameter of her body should be all she gets. And....well....this might be a shock to you....but she's a snake, not a baby.....:)

Thanks for the Reply MegF42 , to expand on the topic -a snake wont eat if it isnt hungry. that was my rule of thumb. I only feed her one day a week to a week
and a half since shes getting bigger. But i dont feed her the biggest mouse she can get down her pipe. Im trying out a feeding program that ive been working on
with other snakes and as you can see she is doing great and living well.Theres no steroids or injections, or any alternating food that im giving her. You
mentioned a snake program is it a measuring program? Im interested in this, the way her growth would be if you measred by months would be 3.33 inches a month
since i bought her. I know some months are more then others.
I have a red tail boa that grew 3 inches every 3 months just some snake eat more then others. When my daughter gets back from vacation in 2 weeks ill put a measure to her to take a pic for you. it also could be im very active with her, like taking her to school with other pets of mine showing kids how fun it could be having reptiles for pets. |

I stand to correct you on your assumption that a snake will only eat if it's hungry. While that's somewhat true (a snake that's not hungry
won't eat), most snakes will eat themselves sick if given the opportunity. Most of my chondros would eat every day if I allowed it and will sit in a
hunting position soon after feeding. I could probably stuff 10 mice into my Sorong if I went by her hunger levels, but I wouldn't. She's fed every 2
weeks since I experienced a prolapse and now all the snakes only get fed every 10-14 days unless they are very young. There is a snake measuring program out
there. Here's the link to it:

Yes this is true I hope your not misunderstanding me,But you and i know if she had too much it would regurgitate itself. Like i said earlier I feed her one day
every 7 to 12 days. She has plenty of time to digest her meals. Im doing a test on her because they grow only to 60- 75 inches and wanting a record without
hurting my baby. Ive done this many times with other snakes but never a chondro. They are very lazy snakes and by bringing there metabolism up this effects
there growth. Im doing it first hand. Feeding her larger quantities but smaller mice is doing it. Shes my baby and she is watched very closely including her
fecal cycles. This my friend is how Im doing it. I looked at the website for the snake measuring program it gave me a 404-not found although half the website
was there....LOL i would like this info maybe there site is down.

She'd take them and not regurgitate them I'm certain. They would still be too much. Whatever works for you though. I don't know if it will create a record or not. A lot of snake size is due to genetics, not just feeding. You might get them to maximum size faster, but you won't make them grow any longer than they are genetically programmed to be. You can't for instance make a cornsnake grow to 7 ft. You can make it reach it's 4-5 ft. size by the age of 2 by feeding it alot, but it won't get any larger than that...only fat. I'm not sure why you'd want to anyway. Getting them to grow faster is not healthier for the animal. You end up with a fatter snake in the end, which leads to a whole new set of problems. I have some chondros who aren't very active and I have some (like my Sorong female for instance) that crawl around all night. They are all in large cages with plenty of space and greenery so they tend to move quite a bit. I handle her but not some of the others. They stress too much when I hold them so I leave them alone. Otherwise, they do what they do....
