My female laid eggs on Tuesday May 6th. I decided to go with maternal incubation again. This is her second clutch, the first being infertile a couple of years ago. The other day I decided to take the nest box out to look at how she and them were doing and smelt something funky. There were two slugs, and 5 seeming good eggs. I removed the slugs and put the nest box with the female and good eggs back in the cage. Since i discovered the slugs I wanted to keep a closer eye on the rest, so yesterday I took them out again. I was upset to see what looked to be a retained egg, not very big, but obvious just before the opening to her vent. Now it appears it moved down from further inside her, since I didnt notice it right away. She doesnt seem to be bothered by it either, she has no problem with making a tight beehive around the eggs. My question is, should I take her to the vet right away? Or will she pass it on her own?
thanks
