Posts: 26 (04/10/07 14:05:06) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi everyone, I have a female Biak type that may be gravid.I had a horny male in with her this past January and they were together for the month.I noticed they were interested and there tails were wrapped.I could not verify if they were actually copulating though.They spent alot of time together for sure.Both animals haven't aten since then as well for about a good 4 months.The male I understand.He is still searching.The female on the other hand has me a little concerned.They both appear very healthy and no loss of body mass either.I fed her about two weeks ago a f/t rat and she regurged it 2 days later.I waited 2 weeks and then tried another f/t no interest.I then tried a live small rat and she grabbed it.Again,2 days later it is on the bottom of the cage.I noticed yesterday that she had that lump in her from the rat and she looked like she was uncomfortable.I felt the lump and it was pretty hard.Then today she puked it up.I noticed the rat was still intact and didn't look even like it was being digested.I fed her this past Saturday.4 days inside should have started to breakdown the rat by then.Could it be that she has eggs inside of her that she can't pass the food.This girl and the male she bred with is from Alex Hues Reptiles.I bought both of them at the last NARBC last October in Tinley.They have been excellent feeders up until the male shut down on me and I introduced them to eackh other. Regurgitation is never a good thing and not something that is normal for any snake. As close as I've had a gravid female come to feeding was a strike/twirl and then a drop. I've not had one take food. I'd say it sounds like she might have something else going on. Did the hard lump remain after she regurged? She might be impacted. Also, the section of your post that was removed is better asked on the BOI. He's a well known breeder so you shouldn't have a problem finding out some information on him. The hard lump I mentioned was just from the rat.She may have been gasious making the lump feel hard.Ever since she regurged she has no sign of a lump and she appears to be normal.She looks healthy as could be. When she did take the prey,she didn't do it willingly.I teased her with the f/t and the live rat she wasn't really hunting.She just struck at it and caught it by accident.I think the feeding insticts just kicked in.She has always been a strong feeder up until I tried to breed the two.

I'm still surprised that she would actually follow through with ingesting the food and regurgitating. If you do try and feed again, I'd wait a while and then feed a much, much smaller meal. Posts: 26 (04/12/07 14:39:15) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well everyone, A miracle happened this morning.She defecated a little as long as Urates.There was one small solid piece and the rest was watery.I was able to get the fecal sample over to a vet today and she did a fecal smear.She is loaded with parasites.I have an appointment to take her in Monday to have her treated.The vet won't give me any meds unless she sees the animal. You don't know how Furious I am to find out that I was BS'd that they were CBB by someone I trusted.Wheather or not he was lied to or he was the one who wasn't honest we will never know.All I know is I have a snake or maybe two that have parasites.I kinda thought that they were CBB at first,because I never seen these types before.But all the female is,is a dark form of Biak and the other may be a Boko. I found that out after I got them and posted pics here.I hate when people can't be honest so you can take the correct steps in caring for this animal. The male she was in with came from the same guy.Do you think if they had any breeding activity or by simply being caged together that he may be infected as well. Also,internal parasites.Are they contagious to other snakes if they never make contact with the infected animal.I have Vision cages that are stacked and everyone is housed seperate.Are these types of parasites mobile on there own or does the animal have to make contact with feces,mucus,or water bowl or by me not washing my hands after working with the infected animal. Thanks everyone.She looks pretty good still.I think she will be when we treat the parasites.

Just because they are loaded with parasites doesn't necessarily mean they aren't CBB. Who knows where they've been and who they've been in contact with since they left the breeder. If they were house with other snakes nearby, they could have gotten something from them. Also, depending on the results, they could be from her food source. Likelihood is, since she's not doing well, they are reptile specific parasites. Always treat a snake suspected of illness as one that could pass on the infection or parasites. You didn't mention exactly what it is that she has but regardless, I'd have the male checked out as well. If they've been in your collection and not quarantined, I would check the rest of my collection as well. That's just me! Good luck with her and please keep us updated. Many of the intestinal parasites that you see in snakes have a fecal-oral transmission. You can pass them onto your other animals and yourself in some cases. It is best to perform all of your husbandry activities starting with your "clean" animals and ending with those that are "dirty" or in quarantine. I use disposable latex gloves when working with any animal that has a questionable status. Even medical hand soap does not kill a lot of intestinal parasite ova, so just washing your hands is not always enough. Parasite ova are designed to stick around and that is exactly what they do. I also have a separate set of handling tools for quarantine animals. Good luck with your new acquisitions!

Good point about the animal dosen't have to be WC to have parasites.I never knew that they could be tranferred thru the food.I know mites can be,but not these types.Is it possible with F/T.I always but my rats and mice from people I know and I get them live and freeze them myself.I never had any issues like this before so hopefully that may not be an issue in my case.I will not rule that out though.I can almost bet they came from the guy I got them from.When you are a supposed to be breeder,there is know way you can have as much and variety as this guy did.He may have bred some things,but not everything he had.I know he did not breed these guys.He did tell me he got them elsewhere.

Posts: 26 (04/15/07 14:38:47) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good news, My male that was in with her is eating.He took a live rat with authority.You don't know how happy I'am that he did so.At least now we can see if he will keep it down and will be able to get a fecal to see how he is in the inside.I was pretty much starving him for a few months.All I had to do is offer live.It is funny how they eat f/t then switch to live.I hope that he will take back to f/t eventually.Sometimes I have had that happen.It takes a couple or less feedings on live to spark the feeding response again.We will have to wait and see.Live is good enough for me now.
