Unfortunately, I don't have exactly the same angle in these shots of Sissy but I can see a big difference from her gravid and not gravid lobes...

Do you have pictures of your flat lobed gravid females? I'd like to see them!

That's interesting. I can't say that I have noticed before but I will certainly be on the lookout in the future. Cool pics.

Hey Kim--
I was going through some of my archive photos and came across a "Hickner" folder. Do you have pics of Sissy as a neonate? and as a changling? If not......hmmm......I might have a few that might be of interest to you:) Richy |

Speaking of Janet, I haven't heard from her in ages! Her email address kept changing there for a while and we lost touch. Have you heard anything from
her lately? Janet, if you're reading this, call me!
I have one picture of Sissy as a changling on my web site (http://southernchondros.com/sissy.shtml) but that's the only one she ever sent me. I have one of Rodney as a neo and an adult. Any pictures you'd be willing to send me I'd love to see. Do you know if she had any official ID numbers on them or their WC parents? |

Hi Kim- for some reason I couldn't post photos and comments. The last two pics are of the same girl.

Kim, Sissy sure looks gravid with flat head and overall blue color. Those are great before and after shots. I'm glad she is doing OK.

I'm wondering if there are fat deposits in the head lobes and as the female uses them up during gestation, they flatten out.

Meg actually I want to say that their lobes are tissue filled with tons of blood vessels with can be used for some sort of thermo regulation.
I have found it quite common for females to have flattened lobes while gravid, or while dehydrated or sick. The same can be said for males if they are having an health or dehydration issue they to can have flat lobes as well. This is also a common appearance in older animals say above 12 to 14 years of age.

gstephens_1@clearviewcatv.net I lost JB's watch!!!!! I have big steel pole envy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was told ,"By the way.........plastic is plastic - I've been in the cancer field for 20+ years now and I've never had a patient get cancer from burning plastic!" I had to ask my self what was this guy thinking!! |

Hi All- This is a cool topic!! Greg is right, I've also noticed sick and older (non reproductive) critters of both sexes with flattened lobes. I had always
asumed it was hormone related.

Well, it seems to have been a good indicator for me this time, too. Sissy is laying eggs as I type. She was gravid, but it looks like they will be mostly
duds. :( Better luck next time around.
