They are little beauties. I love the candy cane eyes on the female.
I do have a concern that they look way too young to have been sexed. Do you know how big they were when they were sexed and the technique that was used? Sexing young chondros is a big concern and not recommended under 100g except by those with a lot of chondro sexing experience. One thing I noticed from your second pictures is to suggest using perches that are about the same diameter as the fattest part of a chondro's body. Plastic coat hangers work great for your size babies. Be sure to keep these guys moist a good part of the time and it's great that you're using paper towels. I'd recommend having a few fecals run to make sure they're clean and healthy as they look. If you have any questions just let us know. We're here to help. |

ya, im not sure how and when they were sexed, he just told me he couldnt sex the others b/c he didnt want to risk spinal damage but that these 2 were sexed,
when they get alil more in age and weight i will take them to the vet, but they are cb, and i will get a smaller perch. i just have them each in a 1 gallon
rubbermade box, until they get bigger.. also if i have a automatic mister, is it ok to keep them each in a 38gallon mesh reptarium? i saw these on ebay and
they look sweet but i was worried about the humidity? also i put them in the boxes today, and disturbing them to mist, when should be the 1st time i offer
food? i was told they last ate friday(17th)

Captive bred can mean they were bred in captivity but imported. I would get them fecaled and checked as soon as possible. I actually feed my animals the day I
get them in. Usually they will take food immediately before "shipping shock" sets in. I've not had one refuse food. I'm not sure how well
you'll be able to maintain humidity with even the auto misters. I don't really like them my self as I prefer to check my animals over as I spray them
each evening. I also don't think the misters are sanitary, allowing bacteria to grow in the sprayer as it stays wet all the time and the water pools inside
the mechanical portion of the nozzle. You might have to just try it and see.

If you didn't get breeder information to back up that CB status I'd assume that they are imports. Just so that you're better informed for your
future chondro purchases (you KNOW they'll be more!
I use 1.6 gallon Rubbermaid containers for my neonates and they work really well. I think the screened cage is a bad idea unless you live in an ideal climate for them. They could feel too exposed and you will have a difficult time maintaining the correct temperature gradient and humidity levels. I'd stick to your smaller cages for now. Move them up a size in the next year or so. You can give them a try feeding anytime but don't be too worried if you have a bit of trouble to begin with as they may take a little while to completely settle in. Hopefully you won't have any problems. Biaks are feisty so that should work in your favor. By the way, do you have Greg Maxwell's "The More Complete Chondro"? I would highly recommend it. |

well... they look really great not a bad mark on them... kinda freaky with them striking at me( only twice).. im used to ball's just a laid back easy goin

See if you find this helpful for a simple caging idea. It's not flashy but it works great for neonates:
Greg's neonate cage plans I have mine housed in a rack system. Here's a bit of information about mine: Neonate tubs A lot of people use racks for neonates but if you only have a few Greg's single cage is a good alternative. |
