Ok so i'm contacted by an elderly gentleman who got my name from a pet store owner (Networking does work apparently) who says he has recently had heart valve replacement surgery and has two Biak yearlings he wants to trade off as they are too difficult for him to keep properly.....um ok (I jumped with joy at first) well I ask all the usual questions...He tells me he bought them from a guy off a chatbaord ( i won't mention which one or who till i verify the story) etc. etc. sends me pics (they appear to be ok in the pics...even a few feeding pics) so i tell him What i have that would be easier to care for..i.e. CBB Rosy Boas, CBB Kenyan Sand Boas, CBB Corn Snakes, CBB Ball Pythons. We talk over the various in and outs and he decides on a couple of anery Kenyans....I make the 8 hour plus drive out to his place (Grandpa always told me if it looks to good to be true it usually is... well here it comes i knew you were expecting it) they have mites, & worms and several stuck sheds one even has an old mouse bite scar....oh boy what a mess. They are obviously "Farmed" babies and well into the change roughly 60% green....Well I went to TSC and picked up some ivomec, made a diluted spray and bath (that's 1/2 cc or 5mg's mixed into one quart of water) and made the first in a series of treatments for the obvious mite problem...I tried really had to explain my obvious disappointment with the whole situation as he didn't tell me any of these things via e-mail or by phone in the past two weeks. In the end (he was actually quite agreeable in the long run) after writing out a contract stating that if they make it i agreed to compensate him (less the vet bills....I know I know but....i couldn't just walk away and leave them there to suffer nor could i leave my animals there either) 20 hours total round trip i came home with everything. I called my vet in his presence at home and allowed him to talk to her (I have the coolest vet on the planet) and we are headed over there in the morning for a check up and medication. I soaked them some more when i got home and got the stuck sheds off and stuck them in a couple of naked 20 gallon tall tanks with a couple of pvc perches newspaper and a water bowl and stuck them in the un-used 1/2 bathroom. It always amazes me that people will spend large amounts of money on something and then not do the work it takes to maintain their investment!
Wish me/us luck....
I'll post pics in a week or so if they are still with us, as i didn't want to stress them anymore than they already have been.
