I don't know what to say really about what this is besides get to a really good reptile vet ASAP.

Could it be a virus of some sort? Who knows. Can't rule out a bacterial problem until treatment is attempted.
There are also fungal infections.
A culture might yield whether or not this is fungal, bacterial or both.

I don't like the idea of baytril injections in the mouth.
That is a very strange treatment.

You can dilute betadine 10x until it is like tea. Then with a monoject curved tip syringe (no needle) irrigate the mouth.

The snakes head must be held downwards when this is done-you don't want anything going down the glottis or throat. You just sort of lightly push the plastic tip under the side of the snakes "lips" toward the rear and gently push the syringe down.

You can also very gently use a q-tip dipped in the betadine to swab away bad areas. Be careful of the teeth.

All of this must be done daily, perhaps twice daily.

You will need systemic antibiotics-but I don't think I'd deal with the vet that injected baytril into the mouth.

Baytril causes tissue necrosis.

A bacterial culture and resistance test must be done to see what antibiotics to use.

Antibiotics cannot be blindly injected, although a strong one could be given until the results come back.

I have also read that injectable vitamin therapy can help.
Need to get all of this from the vet.


This sounds really bad though, but hopefully not incurable-no way to find out without trying.
I hope you can get to a really good reptile vet immediately.
