I just bought my first Chondro after a couple of months of research and a ton of anticipation! It (He or she??) is a awesome little yellow sorong that i got from a breeder through a local shop owner. but what brings me here is some questions about getting this little guy to start feeding. ive heard and read about the difficulty of getting these dudes to start feeding and was wondering what other people have done to get them to start.i got him on monday and hes definitly still acclimating but how long before i should be concerned? Are live pinkys better to start with than frozen?? when is the best time night or day?? thanks Nick

Posts: 25 (01/13/06 23:35:31) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	i just tried everything i could think of to get him to go for it but all he would do is turn his head away, just sit there or wrap himself up hiding his head. i thawed the pink in hot water. the pink is no more then an inch. the records say hes fed 5 times. could it still be some lingering stress?

But frozen/thawed works as well. Use tongs to hold the pinky in front of the snake and when you see some movement outta there head with some tongue flicks you know they're interested. It also helps to tap the snake with the pinky. And I've always fed my chondros on the first day unless they coming into shed. If this dosn't work then write back and we can give you some more tips. What are your temps and humidity levels, and how are you maintaining them? Be sure to read the thread title "New to GTPs- He finallyAte!!!!!", posted just recently. Does the feeding chart indicate if the food item was live or f/t? I agree with Tony to use live if it isn't an established eater (and it sounds like it isn't). The movement of the pinky often triggers the snake to coil and hold on. Once you get it feeding, then you can work on getting it to take f/t. You may also mention where you are located in the event an experienced keeper on this forum lives nearby and assist in person. Good luck and keep us advised. Bart

Im going to use a live pinky today too and im going to try leaving in in his cage. as for my setup ive got the plastic shoebox style with paper towle sub. i was using my ceramic heater but couldnt control the heat well enough it was getting to hot, so i took a zoomed heat pad and set a piece of foam on top of that and set the bin on top. it stays 85 all the time. the humidity is between 70-80 most of the time. the feeding chart says "pinky" and the date. that other thread will help a lot too. i live in colorado a little west of denver. thanks again Nick

Posts: 13 (01/14/06 14:56:43) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Hello. i am new to this forum and to chondros but i did buy 3 of them in the past 3 months. i got all mine ot eat for the first time by either 1: giving them a split brain (so the blood might kick in their instincts) or 2: giving them a little nudge to either wake them or aggravate them and then tapping them on the head. some might argue that this method causes stress on the snakes but it has worked and they have been feeding like little piggies every time (they have eaten for me 5-6 feedins every 5 days). by the way i own 2 aru's, and a dark red striped, red eyed jayapura. all are neonates.
