Six months ago I purchased a young pair of gtp's. The male still won't eat for me and would like to get opinions on what is to long. I believed it was male fasting as he has been just fine otherwise. The female eats great and is now twice his size, they were same size when I got them. Everyones post and comments plus Greg's book and my experience with other snakes assured me to relax. Put wonder opinons when or if I should try anything beside wating for him to finally break fast.Thanks,...

Six months is close to the longest I've had a male go off of food but he was an adult and a nice size before he fasted. At 14 months old, I would start to get a bit nervous. If the male was on food at the time of the sale, I think it could be a combination of an adjustment period with some fasting mixing things up. Up until a current male, my experience with young males is that they go off food a shorter period of time than they do when they get older. I'd do a weight check on him because...

At that age, it could very well be a combination of settling in and fasting. As long as it is drinking and behaving normally, I would not force feed. Monitor its weight and if it begins to lose weight have it checked for parasites. Continue to offer food every two weeks. When offering food, try a couple hours after lights out. I would also try placing an upside-down plastic bowl just under it as its perched and leave the food item in the cage. I just had my male of the same age fast for...

Hi there. I got a Sarong Type femal that didnt eat properly for nearly 6 months. I ensured the humidy cycle went from 100% to 60% and provided a slightly warmer than usual hot spot of 90F. It took her a while to settle but now she has she is feeding every week without fail. Hope the same happens for you!

Good luck.

Stephen

Male was 14 months old when I bought them, the female is one month younger. They are house separately and they are set up the same. He acts normal and drinks great and is now 20 months old. The female started eating after two weeks and is doing great. So is the male except for not eating, so I believed they were sexed correctly. The male was produced by Ryan and the female by Nick of Inland Impire. I purchased them form the guy who bought them as babys and Ryan Young was very nice to give me...

How young were they when you purchased them? Could just be fasting but if they were less than a year old when you received them, I'd be getting concerned...about a number of things.
You said you purchased them as a pair. Are they housed together? Assuming they are housed separately, are there any differences in the setups?

Bart
