Hi everyone,I just wanted to ask your advice on panacur doseage.I have a tube of 25 gram paste of the Intervet brand.It is a thick paste and very difficult to get in a syringe.The only way is to add water.This leads up to my question.Is dilluting it with water the correct way to do it.Also,the vet gave me a vile for a previous incident and it was alot more watery and very easy to suck up into the syringe.She told me the stuff I have is a lot stronger than she has.She told me to be careful...

I agree, however, the way I wrote it, was as follow, and should have read for every one one/thousandth of a gram it will contain 10 mg. Wording should've been used rather than assuming the formula would be clear. However, the same results as you arrived at were the exact result I arrived at. Thanks for making it clearer!
Angel
Chondros are next to godliness!!

Angel,

I think your calculation is off.
If the concentration of the Fenbendazole is 100mg/g then,
1.0ml = 1.0g = 100.0mg, therefore 10.0mg = 0.1g = 0.1ml
The Exotic Animal Formulary 3rd Ed. by James W. Carpenter recommends 100mg/kg by mouth every 14 days. So if you have a 500g animal, you would need to administer 0.5ml per treatment.
Hope that helps.

Hey,
If not mistaken here, 1/1000th of a gram will contain 10 mg of the drug. A bit tricky to work with but possible. You can add water to the solution and draw it up into a syringe. Also, how old and how large or small, is the Chondro in question?
-Angel
Chondros are next to godliness!!

Most de-wormers need to actually come directly into contact with the lining of the stomach and intestines. Injecting it into food is not a very effective method of administration. If you are unable to dose the animal orally with a syringe, I would recommend coating the prey item rather than injecting into its body. Again this is not ideal. The best way is to directly administer the medication Also, check with your vet regarding the paste you have. The last time I checked 1.0 milliliters...

Sorry, Bill..I use the 10% liquid (100mg/ml). I find it easier to dose than the paste.
You are correct in that the paste is MUCH stronger than the liquid...It would be difficult to dilute and get an accurate dosing.
If you have a feed store, most sell liquid febendazole under the brand name SafeGuard (wormer for goats)..you can even get it on Ebay:
<a...
